The Centre has agreed to introduce a postal stamp to honour singing legend Lata Mangeshkar. Speaking at the India Today Budget Round Table, Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronics & Information Technology of India, Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the stamp would be an appropriate honour for the \’Nightingale of India\’.
The seal will be revealed as a commemorative stamp. According to the postal department of India, commemorative stamps are issued commemorating important events, well-known personalities in various fields, characteristics of nature, beautiful or rare flora and fauna, environmental issues, agricultural activities, national/international issues, games etc. These stamps are only available at Philatelic Bureaux and counters or under the Philatelic Deposit Account Scheme. They are printed in limited quantities. Stamps on personalities shall not exceed 10% of the Annual Issue Programme, state the guidelines of the Department of Posts.
Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar departed on Sunday, February 6. She was admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital on January 8 after testing positive for Covid-19. She was under medication at the Intensive Care Unit over the past couple of weeks.
