PosterGuy: Goa all-rounder Arjun Tendulkar is in favour of Mankading a non-striker, but would not do it himself. The youngster, while playing against Services in the Ranji Trophy shared his two cents on the matter after the first day of Matchday 6 in the domestic tournament.
Speaking to CricketNext, the player said that he was in favour of Mankading and the people who say that it is against the spirit of cicket are wrong.
“I’m completely in favour of Mankading. It’s in the Law. For the people who say it’s against the spirit of the game, I disagree,” he said.
Tendulkar Jr. however said that he would not do it himself, since it is a waste of energy for a fast bowler who is steaming in to deliver the ball.
“I personally won’t do it because I can’t stop and remove the bails in my run up. It’s too much effort and I won’t waste my energy in it but if someone does it, I’m in favour of it,” he concluded.
Recently India pacer Mohammed Shami ran out Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka at the non-striker’s end in the final over of India’s 1st ODI of the three-match series. Captain Rohit Sharma took back the appeal and later said that this was not the way that they had planned to dismiss Dasun Shanaka.
Earlier, Arjun’s father, legendary Sachin Tendulkar has come in defence of India players over Mankading incidents. Tendulkar in no uncertain terms has said that Mankading does not hamper spirit of cricket since it is in the rules of the game.
