IPL 2023, KKR vs RCB: Highlights
Shardul Thakur entered the crease with KKR reeling at 89 for 5. From there, he led a spirited comeback, scoring 68 off 29 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. The fact that this was the tournament’s second-highest score for a number seven batter highlighted the significance of his performance. He and Rinku Singh 46(33) shared a 103-run partnership to help KKR reach 204/7 after 20 overs.
Despite wickets falling at the other end, Thakur remained focused and never shied away from playing big hits. A couple of his flat-batted shots, similar to a tennis smash, wowed the 60,000-plus spectators. Thakur’s 20-ball half-century this season was also the joint-fastest fifty. (alongside Jos Buttler).
“I don’t even know where it came from but looking at the scorecard at that time, everyone would have thought we are struggling. But your subconscious mind takes over. You also have to have skills to do that at a higher level, but we also work hard in the nets. There is a period where we can slog it in the nets,” Shardul said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Shardul revealed that the coaching staff does the throwdowns for them and gives them the option of range-hitting to improve their power-hitting abilities. He also hailed the spin trio of Suyash Sharma, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, who shared 9 wickets among themselves and keeping RCB to 123.
“Coaching staff do the throwdowns and give us the option of range-hitting. And you know the pitches – they always suit the batsmen, don’t they? Suyash bowled exceptionally well, and we know the quality Sunil and Varun have. They have fun, take wickets. This was a perfect day,” Shardul added.
