IPL 2023, GT vs DC: Shubman Gill said that the Gujarat Titans failed to build enough partnerships in their top order and that cost them the match against Delhi Capitals.

- GT failed to chase down 131 vs the Capitals
- Hardik Pandys’s 59 not out went in vain
By PosterGuy: Shubman Gill reckoned that Gujarat Titans should have chased down 131 against the Delhi Capitals and secured a comfortable win in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, May 2.
After restricting DC to 130 for eight, GT made a poor start. They were reduced to 32 for four in 6.4 overs. Although skipper Hardik Pandya and Abhinav Manohar put on 62 runs for the fourth wicket, their efforts couldn’t pay dividends as the Titans lost by five runs.
“The wicket wasn’t so bad. We bowled really well. We couldn’t stitch partnerships in the top order, which created pressure on lower order. The wicket was tough to bat, but with the kind of batting we have, chasing 131 shouldn’t have been a problem,” Gill was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.
Gill also said that the DC spinners, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, didn’t make life easier for the Titans in their run-chase. Kuldeep got the prized wicket of David Miller while giving away only 15 runs off four overs. Axar couldn’t make a breakthrough, but bowled at an economy rate of six.
“DC spinners bowled well and it was difficult to hit boundaries,” he stated.
Gill also said that GT skipper Hardik Pandya had an off day with the bat, but also credited the DC bowlers for bowling accurately in the death overs. Hardik stayed not out on 59 off 53 balls with seven fours, but couldn’t take the Titans past the finish line.
“As a player and a batter, we are all bound to have one off day. It was just one of those off days where he backed himself, which every batter should. He backed himself to hit those runs, but DC bowlers bowled some good yorkers in the end,” Shubman added.
