PosterGuyAfter clean-sweeping New Zealand in the three-match one-day international series, Team India will lock horns with the Kiwis in the first T20I of the three-game series. All-rounder Hardik Pandya will take over the captaincy as they face Mitchell Santner’s side at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.

Pandya, who is set to lead the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, confirmed that Prithvi Shaw will have to wait to make his return to the starting XI, with Shubman Gill and home town hero Ishan Kishan opening the batting for India. New Zealand will also be without Kane Williamson and the experienced Tim Southee.

The BlackCaps will be looking to bounce back in the T20I series after failing to mount a challenge in the ODI series. With an inexperienced bowling attack, barring Lockie Ferguson, New Zealand will be under the pump in the new conditions at Ranchi. They have not been able to threaten the side in the ODI format of the game and will hope for a better outing against the young Indian team in the T20Is.

Pitch Report

Ranchi is a must-bowl pitch, with dew expected to play a big part and a high-scoring game could be on the cards. The wicket should also aid the spinners more. The venue has hosted only three T20Is in the past with India winning all of them. The last time a T20I was played in Ranchi, India beat New Zealand by seven wickets in 2021.

The weather is expected to be clear with no chance of rain in Ranchi. A full game can be expected by fans with the match beginning at 7 PM IST at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi.

Predicted XI for India
