Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Rajasthan Royals by 112 runs in Match No. 60 of the IPL 2023 on Sunday (May 14) to end the losing run of two matches and get their IPL 2023 campaign back on track. The Faf du Plessis-led side, which suffered defeats against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians in their last two matches, faced Sanju Samson & Co. in a must-win match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Sunday afternoon, and riding on combined all-round performances from batters and bowlers, they dismissed the hosts for the third lowest total in IPL history to secure a big win.
After posting 171 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs, RCB bowled out the Royals for just 59 runs in 10.3 overs. The big win over the hosts benefited RCB by leaps and bounds because their net run rate, which was negative before the start of the game, turned positive, and they are now in pole position to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs. If the Virat Kohli-starrer side manages to get the better of SRH and GT in their next two league stage matches, they will secure a place in the IPL 2023 playoffs.
For RCB, skipper Faf, who is leading the Orange Cap race this year, top-scored by making 55 runs, and he was ably supported by Glenn Maxwell, who made 54 off 33 deliveries. After they stabilised the RCB’s innings in the middle overs, young Anuj Rawat provided the finishing touch with a quickfire 29 not out from just 11 balls.
The target of 172 runs wasn’t a big one, but it looked like Everest for the inaugural edition winners after they lost both their openers for ducks, along with skipper Samson, in the first two overs. They couldn’t recover from that jolt till the end and could only amass a total of 59 runs.
After RCB secured a big win over RR, the Lucknow Super Giants IPL franchise took to Twitter to post a one-word tweet with two emoticons, which immediately went viral on the internet. RCB and LSG, which have already faced each other twice in the IPL this year, could line up against each other in the IPL 2023 playoffs if they manage to qualify, and the possibility of that rematch has now got the fans excited.
