By PosterGuy: Former New Zealand captain Kane Williamson said that it is always a challenge to bat in Asia after he scored a Test double hundred against Pakistan on Thursday.

Williamson, who recently quit the Test captaincy, achieved the feat on Day 4 of the Karachi Test and overtook Brendon McCullum for most Test double centuries by a New Zealand player. Williamson now has five double hundred scores in Tests, one more than McCullum.

“It is always a challenge to bat in Asia,” Williamson said in the press conference after stumps on Day 4. “Slightly different as well. All the countries and opposition are different.

“I would not put them all in the same group, but as a team we are always trying to adjust to the conditions to put a good performance on the board. These were a good few days, but Test cricket going into day five, there is a lot left in the match, so we are very much focused on that.”

New Zealand declared at 612/9 soon after Williamson completed his 200 runs, leading Pakistan by 174 runs at tea. In reply, Pakistan scored 77 but lost Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood before stumps. Pakistan trailed New Zealand by 97 runs at stumps on Day 4.

When asked whether the visitors declared late, Williamson said: “We will have to see if we declared late. We wanted to get a few more runs and see the way the pitch is deteriorating a little bit and getting a bit of assistance with the spin.

“It has definitely deteriorated a bit, there is a lot more rough as we saw towards the back end of our innings. There were a few more things to negotiate as a batter, a little bit of variable bounce. We will need a lot of hard work and some patience going into tomorrow to try and utilise the assistance off the surface as well as we can.”
