Dussehra 2023: Hindi Films That Effectively Capture The Essence of The Festival

The festival of Dussehra is most often used in films to depict the win of good over evil, a common theme in most films. Some of the below mentioned films have effectively infused the Hindu festival depicting Ram`s victory over the 10-headed Raavan into the plot. Here`s taking a look at some of them:

Ram Leela 

In the climax of this Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, Ram (Ranveer Singh) and Leela (Deepika Padukone) shoot each other to death while pope celebrate Ramlila and burning the Ravaan effigy. The scnee symbolises Ram and leea sacrificng their les to end the enmity between their warring communities.

Ra.One 

The classic message of good triumphs over evil formed the core of the film. It was a modern day retelling of Ramayan with a sci-fi twist. The film has an impatful scene where Arjun Rampal\, the antagnist, is seen walking away from a burning Raaa effigy. The scene is sued to imply his strength. Arjun plays Ra.One, a video game villain who enters real life.

Swadesh 

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, this Shah Rukh Khan-led film beautifully portrays the festival in the song `Pal Pal hai Bhaari`. Th scene involves actress Gayatri dressed as Sita performing a scene from Ashok Vatika along with Raavan. In the scene SRK talks about how one can become Lord Ram by discarding his/her evil side.

Brahmastra 

The Ayan Mukerji -directorial beautifully portrays the festival where the protagonists Shiva and Isha lay eyes on each other for the first time. Ranbir`s character is seen setting fire to the Raavan effigy towards the end of the song`Dance Ka Bhoot`.

Kalank

This Dharma film might have failed to impress at the box office, but it sure did have breathtaking visuals. Set in the pre-independence era, the film makes use of the festival to depict the first meet of Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt`s characters. In the backdrop, we see a massive effigy of the 10 headed Raavan burning and Varun and Alia walk towards each other.

Marjaavaan

Milap Zaveri’s film starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria has a Dussehra celebration scene in the end where the actor is seen fighting with the villain Riteish Deshmukh and wins to prove the victory of the evil.

Bajrangi Bhaijaan

In the song `Tu Chahiye, Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor are seen celebrating the festival of Dussehra with kids. This sets the precedent for Salman Khan`s character who is pure at heart and sets out to unite a Paksitani girl with her family.

Delhi 6

One of the recurring themes of this Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra`s film is he festival of Dussehra and Ram Leela. In most of the scenes, the characters are seen watching a theatrical depiction of Ram Leela.

Prem Granth

Madhuri Dixit`s character burns her enemy along with the effigy of Raavan in this film directed by Rajiv Kapoor. Also starring Rishi Kapoor, the 1996 film deals with the subject of rape.

Rowdy Rathore

Akshay Kumar plays a cop in the film. In one of the scenes, when he chases evil men, it is portrayed in the backdrop of a Dussehra rally. The evil men are seen strategically hiding behind effigies of Raavan amid the crowd.

Mardaani 2

Rani Mukerji essays the role of a tough cop named Shivani in this cop franchise. The second part of the franchise begins with the festival of Dussehra and ends with the festival of Diwali. The implication is that it is a battle between good and evil.
