Harry Brook not in right mindset, SRH can drop him for a couple of games: Brett Lee

IPL 2023, SRH vs KKR: Former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee said there is no doubting Harry Brook’s quality as a batter but added the young Englishman needs a break amid his lean patch in the IPL.

In Short

  • Harry Brook got out for 0 in 4 balls in SRH’s defeat to KKR
  • Brook has scored 34 runs in 5 innings since his 100 in Kolkata
  • SunRisers are rooted to the 9th spot in IPL 2023 points table

By PosterGuy: Former Australia fast bowler Brett Lee suggested Harry Brook take a break for a couple of games in IPL 2023 amid his lean patch and SunRisers Hyderabad give an opportunity to someone else like Glenn Phillips in the middle-order.

Brett Lee’s comments came after Harry Brook bagged his second successive duck in SunRisers’ 5-run defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders in an IPL 2023 match on Thursday, May 4 in Hyderabad.

Brook was bought by SunRisers for Rs 13.25 crore at the IPL 2023 auction amid his sensational Test form. The England star, who has hit 4 hundreds in his first 6 Tests, overcame a slow start and hit a match-winning hundred against KKR in Kolkata on April 14.

However, his form has dipped ever since as the big-hitter has managed just 163 runs in 9 matches. Brook has managed scores of 9, 18, 7, 0, 0 after the sensational hundred at Eden Gardens.

Brook has also struggled to cement a spot in the XI as he has been moved up and down so far in the season.

“He is obviously a class player. He has got Test hundreds. He has got a hundred here as well. But I feel, SRH are losing a spot. May be they bring someone else instead of Harry Brook for a couple of games. They are losing,” Lee told Jio Cinema.

“Nothing against Harry Brook, he is a gun. But he is not in the right mindset,” he added.

Brook has struggled against spin and it was evident when he got out for a 4-ball duck to left-arm spinner Anukul Roy on Thursday in SRH’s failed chase of 172.

Brook tried to paddle sweep a straight delivery and was out LBW for 0.

Former India batter Robin Uthappa said SunRisers can look at someone like Glenn Phillips for the middle-order role and promote in-form Heinrich Klaasen higher up the order.
“Probably, someone else at No. 6 instead of Harry Brook. He is having a pretty lean run,” Uthappa said.

“They have Glenn Phillips who can bat in the middle-order. If it’s not working, it’s not working, you have got to enough opportunities and if it’s not coming off, it’s not.
Uthappa, however, said there is no doubting Brook’s quality and he will find ways to get better in Indian conditions.

“He has been on a lean patch after that hundred. He will get better at playing in India as time goes on. He will figure out a solution. He is too good a batter not to find out a solution. It’s just a matter of time,” he added.

SunRisers are rooted to the 9th spot of the IPL 2023 points table after losing 6 out of 9 matches.
