Former England off-spinner Graeme Swann made a startling observation during a media interaction, stating that both the Afghan spinners – Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad are possibly the best in the business at the moment and their bowling form might help Afghanistan win the ODI World Cup 2023 scheduled to held in India in October-November. Swann’s remark came after both the Afghan spinners were right on the money for the defending champions Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023.
“Every nation should be jealous that India have so many good wrist spinners in the country. The only nation that shouldn’t be jealous is Afghanistan. Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad are possibly the best two bowlers in the world currently. Afghanistan can win the World Cup if they keep going,” Swann told media. The former England spinner is an IPL expert with Jio Cinema – the official digital broadcaster of the Indian Premier League.
While Rashid has already made a name for himself, young left-arm spinner Noor has impressed everyone this season and has the potential to be the future star for Afghanistan. The spinners have together taken 30 wickets in IPL 2023 so far and have been instrumental in helping the Titans to be the table toppers in this edition.
With three matches left to play, Gujarat Titans have almost sealed their spot in the playoffs and are looking good to defend their title.
“I can’t ask anything more from the boys. The way the game changed after that (Rashid’s catch), at one point I thought the game was even stevens and that catch was match-changing. We were both driving at 100kph as a team but that catch caused a bump in their chase,” Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya said after their emphatic win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the last game.
