Young Indian opening batters Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are on fire in the ongoing IPL 2023 season. With 576 runs to his name from 13 matches, Gill sits at the No. 2 position in the Orange Cap race, and 21-year-old Yashasvi, who opens the innings for Rajasthan Royals, is at No. 3 with a total of 575 runs to his name from 13 matches. Both of these youngsters have impressed everyone with their fearless batting approaches and are touted by many as the upcoming superstars of Indian cricket and the IPL.
But when former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, who won IPL titles with Rajasthan Royals (2008) and Chennai Super Kings (2018), was asked to pick one player who is going to be the next big name in IPL, he snubbed the Indian duo and instead picked a 23-year-old Australian all-rounder who plays for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 as the next big player.
According to Watson, who is associated as an assistant coach with the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023, MI star Cameron Green is going to be the next big name in the IPL. Speaking about Green on Jio Cinema’s show, Watson said, “I am going to say Cameron Green. He’s the best on the scene already, but I think he’s going to be mind-blowing in the future.
Green was signed for Rs 17.50 crore by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2023 mini-auctions last year. The Australian cricketer has featured in all 13 matches for the five-time champions so far and has scored 281 runs at an average of 40.14 and a strike rate of 146.35. With the ball, he has accounted for the dismissal of six matches in 13 innings so far.
Watson, who is one of the greatest all-rounders of all time, was also asked to pick the greatest all-rounder in IPL history, and he didn’t consider himself and instead picked KKR star Andre Russell. Also, for him, former CSK great Suresh Raina is the most underrated player in the cash-rich league’s history.
