D23: The Official Disney Fan Club event has been scheduled to take place in Anaheim, CA from August 9 to 11. Major production houses including Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel treated fans to important announcements regarding their upcoming titles.
The opening day of D23 2024 was grand. Trailers and first-look footage of upcoming titles from Disney, Marvel, Pixar and others kept the curiosity high. Here’s a recap of what unfolded on D23 2024 Day 1.
Moana 2 Trailer
The trailer of Walt Disney Studios’ Moana 2 was unveiled at D23 with a performance. The voice of Moana herself, Auli‘i Cravalho, alongside dancers and drummers from Nonosina Polynesia lit the stage. Following the performance, Dwayne Johnson, the voice of demigod Maui, hit the stage to greet fans and drum up excitement, revealing for the first time a new trailer and poster.
Fantastic Four: First Steps Costumes Unveiled
At the D23 event, Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Fantastic Four: First Steps grabbed eyeballs. Marvel’s First Family will be entering theatres on July 25, 2025. The Disney event gave a first glimpse of the costumes that are worn by the cast. The 1960s-inspired look has drastically changed from what was shown in the concept art teaser that was released earlier. In a video message for the fans, Joseph Quinn’s Johnny Storm can be seen suited up in a white and blue costume.
Mufasa New Trailer
Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King director Barry Jenkins and songwriter Lin-Manuel Miranda, along with cast members Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Theo Somolu, Braelyn Rankins and Anika Noni Rose, shared an exciting new trailer and poster with fans attending the studio showcase at D23. The film capped the studio’s presentation with a show-stopping performance of the classic Nants’ Ingonyama and new song Ngomso by Lebo M., who contributes to the film’s music, alongside a full choir.
Snow White Teaser Trailer
Fans at the D23 got a look at the teaser trailer and poster for Disney’s Snow White, releasing in theatres in March 2025. Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, who portray Snow White and the Evil Queen, respectively, gave fans exclusive details about the production and shared a first look at the Whistle While You Work scene.
Avatar 3 Title
Director James Cameron unveiled the title and release date. Avatar 3 is titled Avatar: Fire And Ash. A poster showcasing a concept art highlighting flames was unveiled. James Cameron said at the D3 expo, “You’ll see a lot more pandora that you never saw before. It’s an insane adventure and a feast for the eyes, but it’s also got very high emotional stakes, more than ever before. We’re going into really challenging territory for all the characters you know and love.”
Win Or Lose First Look
Pixar announced its first long-format series, Win Or Lose which focuses on eight different characters who prepare for a softball championship. Win or Lose will premiere on December 6 on Disney+.
Toy Story 5
Embarking on a new journey, Toy Story 5, directed by Andrew Stanton, orbits around toys battling technology to grab the attention of children.
Inside Out Series On The Cards
After the critical and commercial success of the two films, Inside Out will be made into a dreamy series. The Disney Plus series will be releasing next year.
Frozen 3 To Release In 2027
The highly-anticipated Frozen 3 will take some more time to hit the theatres, revealed Disney chief creative officer and Frozen co-director Jennifer Lee. The animated drama will release in 2027 and will be followed up by a subsequent film.
LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy First Trailer
The first trailer for Disney Plus’ LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy was unveiled at D23. It is up for a release on September 13.
Incredibles 3 In The Making
Pixar left fans curious and thrilled by announcing that the third part of Incredibles is in the works. No further update has been shared as of now.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew First Trailer
Disney Plus’ new Star Wars: Skeleton Crew series will be premiering on December 3. The show’s first trailer focused on the kids getting into Goonies-style space mischief.
Agatha All Along Trailer
Marvel’s Agatha All Along, the Disney Plus series, promises to be a blend of humour and supernatural fun. It premieres in September.
