Days after being released from jail on bail, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said he would resign from his post in two days and has sought early polls. Kejriwal, who was released on bail from Tihar on September 13 in the excise policy corruption case, said, “I will only sit on CM’s chair after people give me a certificate of honesty.”

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday announced he would resign from his post in two days and sought early polls in the national capital as he would not sit on the Chief Minister’s chair until people give him a “certificate of honesty”.

“Now until the people of Delhi give their decision, I will not sit on the Chief Minister’s chair. I will resign from the post of Chief Minister after 2 days from today,”

Kejriwal, who was released on bail from Tihar on Friday (September 13) in the excise policy corruption case, said, “I will only sit on CM’s chair after people give me a certificate of honesty. Want to give ‘agnipariksha’ after coming out of jail.”

“I will become chief minister, Sisodia deputy CM only when people say we are honest,” he said.

A day after being released from Tihar Jail on bail in the excise policy case, Kejriwal held a meeting of AAP leaders regarding the October 5 Haryana Assembly polls.

The Delhi CM met senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi at his residence on Saturday. In a statement, Aam Aadmi Party said that party convener and Delhi chief minister thanked Singhvi for strongly putting his case before the Supreme Court.

Kejriwal was accompanied by his wife Sunita Kejriwal, AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and his wife, Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha, Delhi minister Atishi and his aide Bibhav Kumar.

Alleging the BJP tried to prove him corrupt, Kejriwal said the saffron party cannot provide good schools and free electricity to people because they are corrupt. “We are honest,” he asserted.

“They slap false cases against non-BJP chief ministers. If they are arrested, I urge them not to resign but run the government from jail,” the Delhi chief minister said.

“I didn’t resign (after arrest in excise policy case) because I respect democracy and the Constitution is supreme for me,” Kejriwal said and asserted that it is only the AAP that can stand up to the BJP’s “conspiracies”.

Referring to him quitting the chief minister’s post in 2014 over the Jan Lokpal Bill, just 49 days after assuming power, Kejriwal said, “I resigned then for my ideals. I do not have a lust for power.” Saying that the excise policy case would go on for long, the chief minister said he wanted to ask the people of Delhi whether he is honest or guilty.
