By PosterGuy: Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara has said that India batter Rishabh Pant needs to work on his wicket-keeping skills. The Indian team management has rested Pant for the upcoming three-game ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Ahead of the Sri Lanka series, Sangakkara said Pant needs to work on his wicket-keeping, adding that people only focus on his batting.
“Pant needs to work on his keeping. I think for one, Rishabh Pant can improve his wicket-keeping quite a bit. A lot of people only concentrate on his batting, and it is combination of two that increases confidence,” said Sangakkara.
The former left-handed wicket-keeping batter said Pant can become really good by concentrating on smaller moments.
“I know it is hard and boring but he can really become good by concentrating on smaller moments and that in turn will help him in white ball cricket, and then he will become the keeper he is expected to become,” Sangakkara added.
When it comes to batting, Sangakkara wants Pant to be judicious in his choices of whom to attack and when to attack.
“In his batting, I have got no doubt that he has got all the shots, ability and talent, but it is about understanding how you build an innings in T20 cricket, knowing which bowlers to attack and be a little smart,” said Sangakkara.
While the BCCI did not mention in its press release whether Pant was dropped or rested, it has emerged that the wicketkeeper-batter has been asked to report at the National Cricket Academy to work on strength and conditioning.
It is understood that he has been asked to report at the NCA for a knee-strengthening rehabilitation programme for two weeks. Hence, he will miss the entire Sri Lanka series, according to news agency PTI.
