India’s ace tennis star Sania Mirza revealed on Tuesday morning that she has pulled out of the US Open 2022 due to a forearm and elbow injury.

“Hi guys, a quick update. I just have some not-so-great news. I hurt my forearm/elbow while playing in Canada 2 weeks ago and obviously, didn’t realize how bad it was until I got my scans yesterday and unfortunately, I have in fact torn a little bit of my tendon,” Mirza wrote on Instagram.

“I will be out for weeks and have pulled out of the US Open. This isn’t ideal and it’s terrible timing and it will change some of my retirement plans but I will keep you posted,” she added.

Earlier last month, Sania Mirza had lost her mixed doubles semi-final in Wimbledon along with Croatian partner Mate Pavic. Sania, who had won the Australian Open and French Open mixed doubles titles with Mahesh Bhupathi in 2009 and 2012, respectively, was bidding to reach her maiden mixed doubles final at Wimbledon.

The Indian star, the winner of 6 Grand Slam titles, had won the mixed doubles US Open title with Bruno Soares in 2014. Notably, Sania had crashed out in the first round of the women’s doubles competition with Lucie Hradecka.
