Johnny Lever is one of the most legendary comedians of this country and his rise to fame is nothing less than a movie in itself.
Recently, Johnny Lever appeared in an interview with ETimes where he opened up about his career, his journey to fame and how he handled it.
He also talked about the lack of comedy in today’s films and the problems he faced due to the insecurities of film stars in the 90s.
Upon being asked about comedy in today’s films, Johnny replied, “aaj ki filmon me comedy hoti kaha hai, pahle ki filmon me proper comedy writers hote the, wo log comedy scenes likhte the baith ke, discuss kar ke, leik ab to comedy bant gayi hai, aajkal heroes, villains saare log comedy kar rahe hain”.
He also revealed how his scenes used to get cut because the ‘big stars’ used to get envious of him.
“Jab mere scene aate the, to log taaliyan bajaane lagte the, picture me Johnny Lever chha jaata tha to heroes ko complex ho jaata tha aur wo directors ko bolte the ki humaare liye bhi comedy lines likho, to humaare lines wahi pe bant jaate the! Kabhi Kabhi hum hero pe bhaari par jaate the, to humaare scenes bahut baar kaat diye jaate the”.
People are reacting to his comments on Reddit and are guessing the actor’s name for whom he might be talking.
One user wrote, “Now people watch the compilations of his scenes in a movie”.
Another user wrote, “this is so sad, earlier bollywood was known for good comedy and audience would look forward to comedy in the movies”.
One other user wrote, “I mean you could argue that Govinda must have felt threatened with Shakti Kapoor with his Nandu Sab ka Bandhu gig But I don’t remember Johny ever playing such a popular character”.
Johnny Lever was last seen in Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus which turned out to be a dud at the box office.
