In Short

- Ajay Jadeja has asked if something was wrong with Rohit Sharma’s approach
- Indian team under Hardik Pandya have been very different from Rohit’s team
PosterGuy: India lost their second T20I match against Sri Lanka on Thursday, 5 January to set up the decider. Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, the young Indian side played well in both the matches, and showed signs of what’s to come when the stalwarts retire from the Indian team.
Hardik’s side has been different in terms of combination and approach, with the most visible one being the number of bowling options in their team. However, that did not help them in the second T20I match against the Asian Champions as the team lost by 16 runs in Pune.
Discussing the game in the Cricbuzz studio, former India player Ajay Jadeja questioned the new approach and asked if that was really needed.
“Why is it that every captain, at least three years I can think of that when Virat Kohli took over he wanted to change the way the Indian team played? Rohit Sharma took over, he wanted to change the way the Indian team played. Now, Hardik Pandya has taken over, he wants the Indian team to change,” the player asked.
“Why is it that everyone who comes in new wants to change the old system? What is the system problem there?” Jadeja further added.
Replying to his query, India keeper-batter Dinesh Karthik said that the change of approach was a thing because India had not done well under the previous captains in the ICC tournaments, and thought needed to be given on the same.
