The Kashmir Files has emerged as a surprise blockbuster of 2022. It had an opening of just Rs. 3.55 crore but it grew with each passing day. On Wednesday, that is, on Day 13, it managed to cross the Rs. 200 crore mark. While it managed to have a dream run till the second Sunday, it had its first noticeable drop from Monday onwards. As the much-awaited RRR would be released on March 25, everyone is wondering whether it’ll still be able to cross the Rs. 300 crore mark, which was what was predicted last week by many.
When asked about what its lifetime would be, trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “It’s too early to predict. No one can really guess what kind of business it might eventually do. There might be a speed breaker in the form of RRR. But I am sure that there would be a strong audience for The Kashmir Files (even after RRR releases).” When asked if it can still cross the Rs. 250 crore or even the Rs. 300 crore mark, he replied, “Yes, anything is possible.”
Trade expert Komal Nahta confidently predicted, “It all depends on how RRR is. But as of now, it looks like it’ll easily cross the Rs. 300 crore mark.”
Akshaye Rathi, film exhibitor and distributor, meanwhile stated, “Going by the way the film is still carrying its momentum into this week, there really is no definition around where this can end up. So, there’s a high chance that it’ll be impacted by RRR but how much that impact would be, needs to be seen. And that will determine whether it goes past the Rs. 250 crore mark, which to me looks definitive, or if it can make it to the Rs. 300 crore mark.”
Komal Nahta, however, agreed that RRR can affect the collections of the political thriller, “If RRR turns out to be worth watching, that it’ll become the first choice of the viewers. Also, The Kashmir Files is already two weeks old.
Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The Kashmir Files stars Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumaar and Pallavi Joshi. It focuses on the shocking episode of the persecution of the Kashmiri Pandits in 1990.
