If you’re a playful bride, you’ll love Bipasha Basu’s beauty looks
Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover got married in April 2016, and the bride’s lit-from-within glow could definitely be attributed to her being in love. “I feel I am lucky, as I live only for love. And no man has given me more love and respect than Karan. I might not be looking for the same thing in marriage like others do. I have my own checklist, and I have ticked my boxes accordingly,” she said at the time. But the maximalist bride upped the ante, wearing fun makeup looks (in accordance with her Bengali wedding outfits) that you’ll want to copy, ASAP.
Reach for a hair accessory
For traditional functions like the wedding ceremony, you might be relying on tried-and-true hairstyles—like a low bun with flowers to embellish it. But for a fun event—like your mehandi, reception or even a pre-wedding shoot—a tiara, headband or hair clips can serve as an exciting touch. Experiment with different styles—Basu loves doing it. “My hair is my biggest beauty asset. Whether it’s voluminous curls, sleek-straight or beach waves, I like to experiment with my hairstyles and resort a lot to styling,” she shared.
Face-framing highlights are a good idea
When you’re going to be photographed so much (and when the pictures will last forever!), you want to brighten and draw attention to the features on your face you want to accentuate (like high cheekbones or a strong jawline), and face-framing highlights are the best way to do so. “I have naturally black hair, but I like to have some colour in the form of streaks and highlights,” she confirmed in an interview. For her wedding, the star added honey and caramel highlights to her already all-over lightened hair, focusing on the front of her strands.
Rock a cat-eye
There are some brides that take a minimalist route, but Basu wasn’t one of them. She actually swayed far away from her usual picks then—“A sexy smokey eye paired with a pale, nude lip,” was her go-to at the time. She went all-out instead, wearing a strong cat-eye flick to accentuate her eyes. If you’re picking this makeup look, pair it with a metallic eyeshadow to soften things up, and wear fake lashes—a cat-eye looks best with a heavy lash line.
A red lip is always a good idea
Basu loves a true red shade (usually in a velvet-matte texture) and the Bengali bride wore exactly that for the wedding ceremony to match her saree. But if you’re picking this bold shade, you’ll want to make sure it won’t budge, smudge or move. Apply a matching liner all over the lips, and then layer a matte-finish lipstick (applied with a lip brush). Then, blot with a tissue to ensure you’re getting a smooth layer, and then reapply. Finally, set it with a spritz of makeup setting spray.
Contour is key
Contouring your face for your wedding day is a good idea, but it is important not to go overboard. Bronzer, when applied properly, will create a soft-focus toward the center of your face, which is what you want. You’ll want to apply bronzer or a darker foundation shade to the parts of the face you want to chisel (like under your cheekbones and down your jawline) and a highlighter to the parts of the face you want to brighten and accentuate.
