Actress Alia Bhatt is gearing up for the release of her upcoming film Gangubai Kathiwadi helmed by ace filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The film stars Alia Bhatt as Ganguabi- a Madame in the red light area of Kamathipura, Mumbai. In the trailer of the film, Alia’s performance looks super promising and is worth watching. Well, this is not the first time Alia has given such a stellar performance. The actress has proved her meretricious over the last decade in films like Raazi, Udta Punjab, and Gully Boy among others.

Recently, a press meet was organised during the promotions of the film on 12th February 2021. During the conference, Alia was questioned if it was the most difficult and challenging part of her career so far.

To which she agreed and said, “This is not a character also, which also has to be entertaining because otherwise, it is a commercial film. So, Highway and Udta Punjab were very difficult characters, but like the genre or and the details of the film were like you speak more about the performance in the film. Here you have to enjoy it as well. It’s also very important and it will also speak about the performance. So, for that sake, this is a film after a really long time that you are modelling on a character.

She added, “A lot of people are coming in telling me this has reminded them of a vision, I don’t know how it grew up. 4-foot ki Amitabh Bachchan, people are coming and telling me this (laughs). The hold of a character which I have not experienced as an actor and also not seen anybody doing the language. Sir ( Sanjay Leela Bhansali) wanted that portrayal to keep it entertaining, but to keep it intense to keep it this and keep it that. So that was hard. So I would say this is possibly the toughest because of that reason that while being authentic, it also has to be entertaining.”

Gangubai Kathiawadi has also been selected to be screened at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in February and will have its world premiere at the festival, to be screened as part of Berlinale Special, a segment of the film festival which is dedicated to showcasing exemplary cinema.

Viacom18 Studios & Paramount Pictures International will be distributing Gangubai Kathiawadi in all International markets outside of India. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Dr. Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios), the film is all set to release theatrically on 25th February 2022.
