During a recent interview, Ananya Panday opened up about portraying strong female characters, future plans and more. The actress was recently appreciated for her role in Gehraiyaan which also starred Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi, and Dhairya Karwa.

Talking to Cosmopolitan magazine, she also explained her recent statement about heroines in Hindi films being either “Bechaari or a bi***”.

Ananya explained she found that line while reading a book which she agrees with. She further said, “Even though sometimes artists and performers think they’re doing something different, they could still be putting women in a box. For instance, even if an actor is playing the role of a bad*ss, she might be a ‘one- tone’ bad***. So we end up back to square one: the heroine is either just a bechari, or just a bit**.”

She further added, “But in real life, no-one is just one type of person. Each one of us has so many different facets, and I think it’s time we began exploring them… I think it’s a great time to be an actor right now because people are taking that leap of faith and investing in women and their stories”.

Discussing more about her future plans she said she wanted to be happy and be the best version of herself. Adding to it, “I don’t know what ‘happy’ means yet, but I know I want to be happy. And I want to be the best actor I can possibly be, keep growing, evolving, and not get caught up in unnecessary things. I have always been a very curious person and I have always wanted more for myself. So I want to keep that energy and fire going.”
