RCB release Hasaranga, Chameera

RCB on Monday released all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga and pacer Dushmantha Chameera from to join the Sri Lankan squad ahead of T20 World Cup qualifiers next week.

Hasaranga and Chameera were roped in as replacement players for Australians Adam Zampa and Daniel Sams by the franchise ahead of the second leg of ongoing season.

Head to Head

MS Dhoni, ‘the greatest finisher’, rolls back the years in emotional win in Dubai

It’s the fifth ball of the penultimate over of the Chennai Super Kings innings in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2021, against Delhi Capitals. Avesh Khan steams in and bangs it short outside off. MS Dhoni stands in his crease, sees the ball till the last moment, and smacks the pull.

It’s substantially outside the off stump but he still manages to connect to it maintaining the stillness and composure. There is a fielder at deep mid-wicket but he watches the ball sail over him and into the stands. He’s cleared that long boundary with an 84m six. It’s THAT trademark Dhoni pull. But what catches your attention first is the sound of the bat hitting the ball. It’s probably the sweetest he’s hit a ball in this tournament.

“The sound was like the crack of a rifle,” Sunil Gavaskar describes it on air in the commentary box.

Watching that shot made you feel this might be his day.

And it was.

In clash of two captains, Kohli’s RCB faces Morgan’s KKR in Eliminator

It will be a test of Virat Kohli’s tactical acumen against the ice-cool demeanour of Eoin Morgan when perennial underachievers Royal Challengers Bangalore clash with former champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL Eliminator on Monday.

Kohli, who has decided to step down from captaincy after this edition, has led RCB to the finals in 2016 besides reaching the play-offs twice in 2015 and 2020, and he would like to end things on a high in his last hurray as captain.

For Morgan, it is about regaining the lost glory for KKR, a team which achieved great success under Gautam Gambhir, who had led them to two IPL titles in a space of three years in 2012 and 2014.

IPL 2021, Eliminator 1 Live Updates: Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore will be up against Eoin Morgan’s Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2021 Eliminator at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Preview: On paper, both teams look strong and are coming into the crucial match having won their previous games. While RCB clinched a last-ball thriller against Delhi Capitals, KKR secured a big win over Rajasthan Royals.

RCB qualified for the playoffs and finished third on the league table with 18 points from nine victories. KKR didn’t have the best of starts to the tournament back in India but turned their fortunes around in the second half in the UAE. They won seven matches out of 14 and finished above defending champions Mumbai Indians thanks to a better net run rate.

Kolkata’s biggest positive is their bowlers. The likes of Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine have been impressive with their spells while Lockie Ferguson has also been in good form. Shivam Mavi also picked up four wickets in KKR’s previous match and considering they are playing in Sharjah again, expect Morgan to name an unchanged side. With Shakib Al Hasan’s inclusion in XI, KKR looked like a balanced team.

Virat Kohli’s faith in KS Bharat reaped rich dividends as the wicketkeeper-batsman played a blinder to clinch victory against Delhi Capitals. He remained unbeaten on 78, hitting a six off the last ball to take his team over the line.

Glenn Maxwell is another consistent performer with the bat while the likes of Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel will be the key names in the bowling department.
